Campus Emergency Exercise Today - May 28, 2015

On Thursday, May 28, Davidson College will conduct a full-scale campus emergency exercise in conjunction with Davidson Police, Davidson Fire Department, Cornelius Fire Department, Mount Mourne Fire Department and Mooresville Fire Department.

The event will occur on the main campus area, and the college asks that the general public avoid the area as much as possible from 9 a.m. until noon. The event will include the presence of emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel.

The exercise is part of regular emergency preparedness activities the college performs every year.

Research Interests and Background

I teach a variety of courses for communication studies, educational studies, and sociology, including intercultural communication, media effects, women/men/communication, nonverbal communication, rhetorical criticism, public speaking, and argumentation and debate.

My educational and research interests include the effect of television ads on eating habits and body image among ethnically diverse college woman, the ambivalent role of tradition in food choices, a trans-disciplinary perspective on health communication, the interactions of health, culture, and change in the Mexican-American diet, and the reaction of Latino audiences to Latino comedians' race-based humor.
