The following associations are student-friendly environmental studies organizations.
The purpose of the Association for Environmental Studies and Sciences (AESS) is to serve the faculty, students and staff of the 1000+ interdisciplinary environmental programs in North America and around the world. We seek to strengthen teaching, research and service in environmental studies and sciences, and to improve communication across boundaries that too often divide the traditional academic disciplines. The Association works to support the professional development of Association members not just as individuals but also to advance Environmental Studies and Sciences as a whole.
Established in 1888, The Geological Society of America provides access to elements that are essential to the professional growth of earth scientists at all levels of expertise and from all sectors: academic, government, business, and industry. The Geological Society's growing membership unites thousands of earth scientists from every corner of the globe in a common purpose to study the mysteries of our planet and share scientific findings. According to Prof. Brad Johnson, the GSA is very student-friendly towards the presentation of posters at both national meetings and regional meetings.
The Interdisciplinary Environmental Association (IEA), founded in 1994, is an organization of academics and practitioners from a wide range of disciplines and perspectives who believe that environmental problems require an interdisciplinary approach that needs to be clearly reflected in an organization dedicated to enhancing the discussion of these issues across disciplinary and political boundaries. The mission of the IEA is thus to bring together all disciplines so that environmental knowledge is enhanced though interdisciplinary communications. The goals of the organization are to enhance understanding of environmental issues by educating each other in an interdisciplinary format, and to present disciplinary perspectives of environmental problems to people outside those disciplines, as well as to those outside academia, in a clear, understandable fashion.
The Journal of Science Policy and Governance is an interdisciplinary journal that seeks high-quality submissions on emerging or continuing policy debates. Current students and recent graduates within three years of earning a degree (bachelors, masters, or doctoral) are eligible to submit. We seek to publish articles on a variety of policy areas including: scientific research, engineering, innovation, technology transfer, commercialization, bio-medicine, drug development, energy, the environment, climate change, the application of technology in developing countries, STEM education, and space exploration. Submissions on other topics are also welcome as long as they relate to the theme of science policy and governance. The Journal strives to publish articles in a timely manner to ensure that publications can be considered in the context of current policy debates.
