Scott Denham

I teach courses in writing, global literary theory and cultural studies, in the Humanities Program, and in German Studies. My research focuses on German and Austrian culture and literature of the 20th century and on literary translation.

My research interests focus on Schiller and Goethe. In 2012, I was awarded the American Association of Teachers of German/Goethe-Institut's National Certificate of Merit for outstanding achievement in furthering the teaching of German in the United States. I also chair the interdisciplinary Humanities program.

I teach a variety of beginning, intermediate, and advanced courses in German literature, film, and culture. My research interests include German feminism, pop literature, German and Hollywood film, as well as non-mainstream film from a variety of cultural contexts.

My primary research interest has always been in theatre and performance studies, but my current work focuses on the intersection of theatrical performance with disability, gender, and queer theory for my dissertation, Performance Prosthetic: Figuring Heimat in Twentieth-century German Theater.
