Background

I was born in Bogotá, Colombia and received a B.A. in Philology and Languages from the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, as well as an M.A. in the Teaching of Languages: Spanish and TESOL from the University of Southern Mississippi.

While at USM, I was honored to receive the Excellence in Teaching Award and I was nominated to Who's Who Among American Teachers. Before coming to Davidson, I taught first and second year Spanish at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and served as the Spanish Pedagogy coordinator. I'm proud to say I've been nominated again to the Who's Who Among American Teachers list while teaching at Davidson College. I am currently working as the language coordinator and as such, I oversee the placement of all students who wish to study Spanish at Davidson.

I'm absolutely passionate about teaching and about bringing technology in my classroom. I've successfully incorporated the use of blogs, wikis, and WebQuests in my instruction. Other areas of interest to me include the developing of Spanish as a Second Language materials, Colombian children's literature, pedagogical methods related to the teaching of grammar and composition, and the teaching of Spanish to native and heritage learners.

I'm the co-author of the 2nd Edition of Más Allá de las Palabras: A Complete program in Intermediate Spanish. (John Wiley and Sons).
