Choral Arts Society

This large mixed chorus provides the opportunity for collaboration between Davidson students (Davidson Singers), faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the surrounding community to sing a cappella choral literature and the finest choral/orchestral repertoire with instrumentalists from the Charlotte Symphony and professional soloists from Davidson and around the world.

Recent performances have included Duruflé's Requiem, Handel's Messiah, Mozart's Requiem, Bach's Magnificat in D, Bach's Mass in B minor, Vaughan Williams's Dona Nobis Pacem, Vaughan Williams's Serenade to Music, Mendelssohn's Elijah, Haydn's Creation, Constant Lambert's The Rio Grande, John Corigliano's Fern Hill, and Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem


  • Mondays: 6:30-8:30 p.m. in Sloan 201 (Rehearsals begin the first Monday of every semester).


  • Auditions are held at the beginning of every semester
  • New and returning choir members should sign up for an audition time

    • vocalises
    • pitch matching
    • vocal flexibility exercises
    • sight-reading exercises

Student Tony Nix sings a solo with the Choral Arts SocietyAudition sign-up sheets are posted outside Professor Gilliam's office in Sloan 102, and are also available at the college's activities fair each fall.

Faculty and staff who want to sing in the Choral Arts Society should contact Christopher Gilliam directly. Prior choral experience (college, church, community, etc.) is extremely desirable but not necessarily a prerequisite.
