To receive the Patricia Cornwell Creative Writing Scholarship, you must demonstrate exceptional ability and promise in writing.
The award was established by Patricia Cornwell, Class of 1979, author of nine novels which have been translated into 22 languages and are consistently on best-seller lists.
This award is $10,000 annually, and is offered to one student in alternate first-year classes (next offered in the class of 2019). The scholarship is renewable as long as you maintain the required grade point average, make expected progress toward your degree, and remain engaged in the writing community.
In addition to the application for admission and scholarship application, students must submit a letter on the roles of writing in their lives and 10 pages of their best work in the genre(s) of their choice.
Your portfolio of work should reach our Office of Admission and Financial Aid no later than the application deadline for your chosen admission plan (Early Decision 1 – Nov. 15; Early Decision II or Regular Decision – Jan. 2). Please note that you will only be able to submit your portfolio after you have received your ‘Application Status Webpage’ pin and log-on email from Davidson. You will receive this email only after you have submitted your Application for Admission. Since the email and your pin may not reach you for 24 to 48 hours after you submit your application for admission, be sure to allow for this time in your process.
