Gay Equality, Moral Mondays, and God-Talk: Witnessing Religious Values in the Public Square
The Rev. Steve Shoemaker, retired pastor of Myers Park Baptist Church, Charlotte, NC
In a democratic and pluralistic America, how does one witness one's religious values in the public square in a way that honors a religiously plural nation and guards the separation of Church and State as described in the First Amendment to the US Constitution? Dr. Shoemaker, a leading voice in Charlotte connecting social justice and faith, will reflect on his involvement in public issues as a Baptist minister and discuss both the Amendment One debate in 2012 and the Moral Mondays movement in 2013.
Free and open to the public. Tickets not required. Sponsored by the Office of the Chaplain.
