Henry G. Lee Professor of English at Pomona College, Claudia Rankine is the author of five collections of poetry and numerous plays and co-editor of the influential anthologies American Women Poets in the 21st Century and American Poets in the 21st Century. Newly named a chancellor of the Academy of Poets, Rankine's honors include fellowships from the NEA and the Michener Institute and residency awards from the Lannan, MacDowell and Yaddo foundations.
Claudia Rankine will judge the Vereen Bell Memorial Awards in Creative Writing and announce student winners during the event. There will be a book signing. This event has been generously sponsored by the English Department, Public Lectures Committee and Friends of the Arts.
