Haddad is director of the Middle East Studies Program, associate professor in Public and International Affairs at George Mason University and a visiting scholar at Stanford's Program for Good Governance and Political Reform in the Arab World. He is the author of Business Networks in Syria: The Political Economy of Authoritarian Resilience and numerous other publications as well as a founding editor of Arab Studies Journal and Jadaliyya. Milligan is a visiting assistant professor of Political Science. She has worked for a variety of policy organizations including the U.N. Her work has appeared in Comparative Politics and Middle East Report, ISIM and Sada. Haddad and Milligan will discuss the causes and current dynamics of the Syrian uprising.
