Campus Emergency Exercise Today - May 28, 2015

On Thursday, May 28, Davidson College will conduct a full-scale campus emergency exercise in conjunction with Davidson Police, Davidson Fire Department, Cornelius Fire Department, Mount Mourne Fire Department and Mooresville Fire Department.

The event will occur on the main campus area, and the college asks that the general public avoid the area as much as possible from 9 a.m. until noon. The event will include the presence of emergency vehicles, equipment and personnel.

The exercise is part of regular emergency preparedness activities the college performs every year.

Epes Lecture - Simon Richter

The Hansford M. Epes Distinguished Lecture Series presents: "Reading with Hiccups: The Humanities, Climate Change and You"  with Simon Richter from the University of Pennsylvania

Simon Richter is professor of German literature and cinema at the University of Pennsylvania and past president of the Goethe Society of North America. For much of his academic career Richter focused on gender and the history of the body and published books such as Laocoon’s Body and the Aesthetics of PainMissing the Breast: Fantasy, Gender and the Body in the German Enlightenment and Women, Pleasure, Film: What Lolas Want. More recently, Richter’s thinking has taken an environmental turn with a particular concentration on cultural questions related to global warming, sea level rise and extreme flooding events.
