ITS Appoints Kevin Davis as New Deputy CIO

Davidson College Information Technology Services (ITS) has hired Kevin Davis as its first Deputy Chief Information Officer (Deputy CIO). Kevin will provide strategic and day-to-day leadership of the ITS Core Services team which manages the college's technology infrastructure and delivers technology support and services. He will also serve as the department's information security lead and the second-in-command for ITS overall.

Kevin comes to Davidson from Duke University where he has served in several technology leadership roles. Most recently he was the Program Director for Global Technology Services, and led the IT service delivery efforts for Duke's international campus and program sites in Shanghai, Kenya and Tanzania. His other experience includes program leadership for DukeCard campus services which provides access to Duke buildings and enables financial transactions, implementation of change management processes for Duke IT, and working with Research Triangle region government leaders to deploy fiber optic networks.

Kevin joins ITS as a new vision of driving digital transformation that advances Davidson's primary purpose is coming into focus. It's a vision he says resonated with him and attracted him to the position, and he is excited about leading the Core Services team and partnering with others to make it a reality. "One of the lessons I've learned in my career is that the role of leaders isn't to have all the answers, but to be listeners and facilitators who help the organization find the answers—and, that most of the best answers come from within, through our staff and stakeholders. To that end, my door (physical and virtual) is always open to ITS colleagues as well as Davidson students, faculty and staff who have thoughts on how ITS can better serve the campus community."

Although he has spent many years living and working in the Durham area, Kevin is originally from Winter Park, Florida, and his first job after college was in Charlotte. He graduated cum laude from Harvard University with an A.B. in Government and also earned an M.B.A. from Boston University School of Management.

Kevin and his wife Darleen are already looking forward to becoming a part of the Davidson community and were struck by the vibrancy of both the campus and the town during a recent visit. He's also glad to be closer to the North Carolina mountains, a place both he and Darleen love and frequently visit on weekends. When he's not working and thinking about IT, Kevin is fulfilling a new year's resolution to learn to cook, which he says he's (mostly) met "assuming that being an aficionado of meal kits like Blue Apron isn't cheating!"

Kevin officially joins the ITS team on Monday, January 9, 2017.
