Portfolios

Many advertising and public relations positions require a portfolio as part of the application process. A self-marketing piece, a portfolio should include a selection of writing samples and/or design clips that you feel represent your best work related to advertising or public relations and a brief description of each document to give your readers some context
Create both an electronic and a paper version of your portfolio so that you can both send it quickly to prospective employers and bring it to an interview.

AdWeek
a website and magazine that covers media news, including print, technology, advertising, branding and television. The website also includes a job board.
International Association of Business Communicators
Provides a professional network of about 15,000 business communication professionals in over 80 countries. Some resources are available to the general public; others are available only to members.
American Advertising Federation (AAF)
Oldest national advertising trade association. Their website includes information on a few sponsored advertising internship programs as well as additional job and internship postings.
The Buzz Bubble
a video interview podcast show that plays interviews with thought leaders and creative minds in advertising and marketing.
O'Dwyer's
Covers news related to public relations (PR) and marketing communications. The website contains a list of top PR firms and current PR jobs.
Public Relations Society of America (PRSA)
The world's largest organization of public relations professionals. The PRSA website includes information for students just getting started in PR as well as specific PR job postings. Students may want to look into the Charlotte Chapter of the PRSA and the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). Davidson does not have a PRSSA membership, but students can become affiliate members of the organization to gain access to resources.
