Frequently Asked Questions Regarding Student Telephone Service
Does Davidson provide telephone service to my room?
If you do not own a mobile telephone, you may apply to have a landline activated.
What is the fee for this service?
There is no additional charge for local telephone service.
What if several people in the same room do not have mobile phones, may we each request a landline?
No. We provide one phone extension per room, suite, or apartment.
How do I get a landline activated?
Go to http://help.davidson.edu and fill out an online help desk request.
If I do not have a mobile telephone and request a landline from the college, does the college provide the telephone set?
No. You must provide your own telephone set. Any standard, analog, cordless or corded telephone will work. If you select a cordless telephone, we strongly recommend against those in the 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz spectrum, as they interfere with wireless network.
Would I be able to keep this telephone number the whole time I'm a Davidson student?
No. The line will be deactivated at the end of the school year. You will have to request land line activation each year.
Will the college give out my phone number to callers?
If I change rooms after activating my landline, will my phone number stay the same?
No. We will have to assign a new phone number when you move.
Will the line have voice mail?
You may request voice mail service at the same time you request a landline. Enabling voice mail is not automatic.
What numbers am I allowed to dial with this telephone line?
Calls may be placed to local numbers, toll-free numbers, and 911.
Are any other services available?
No. We do not provide caller id, long distance, conference calling, call forwarding, call on hold, or call waiting.
How would I make a long distance call?
You will need a pre-paid long distance card or calling card.
