Background

I am the Assistant Director of the Deliberative Citizenship Initiative at Davidson College, where I help lead student and public facing programs focused at cultivating productive conversations across political, philosophical, and ideological differences.

Before I came to Davidson, I was Visiting Teaching Assistant Professor in the philosophy department at UNC Chapel Hill, where I also received my Ph.D. in philosophy. In my research, I work at the intersection of philosophy of language, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind. I write about how we can explain the fact that we can be semantically competent even if we are mistaken about fundamental reality. I also write about what we can learn about meaning from studying large language models.

From 2019-2021, I was also Design Project Manager in the Office of Digital Learning at the University of Notre Dame, where I managed a number of educational initiatives including a covid-19 digital resiliency project, a STEM education program for incoming first year students from underserved backgrounds, and a project focused on interfaith dialogue.
