    Emily Rapport '16 worked with the Arts & Science Council's youth development program that uses digital photography and digital multimedia arts to educate and inspire students to stay in school, graduate, and pursue goals beyond high school.

    Maddie Smith '15 worked with the summer learning program to create a measurement tool and collect and analyze accurate and ongoing data about the program. She also supported general administration of the program, including supporting the incorporation of a garden into healthy eating and cooking instruction.

Education Scholars

Education Scholars is a 10-week "Transition to Impact" summer program for Davidson students interested in driving change at every level of our education system. This program places ten students in immersive, project-based internships with local partners in and around the Charlotte education system. 

Program Objectives

  • Complete a high-impact internship at a leading education organization in the City of Charlotte
  • Participate in regular enrichment workshops with local experts and practitioners that explore and analyze complex issues in education
  • Live in a community with other scholars just outside of Charlotte's vibrant Uptown
  • Access a network of innovative practitioners and change-makers who can serve as mentors and resources

Who Should Apply?

All non-graduating students with an interest in any of the following areas:

  • Social change/change management
  • Policy, politics/government
  • Philanthropy, teaching, economic inequality
  • Urban studies

Apply now through the Center for Civic Engagement's Summer Leadership Positions Application.  Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 30.  

Program Dates

The program begins June 1 and ends July 31.
