Summer Housing

Summer 2017 Housing Overview

The Residence Life Office (RLO) will house Davidson students over the summer in Chidsey Hall.

  • Due to space availability, students doing research, internships, taking classes and/or working for Davidson College for the entire summer (May 27-July 29) will be given priority.
  • Students here for either the first half (May 27-July 1) or second half (July 2-July 29) will be given secondary priority.

Students who need to stay from graduation to the beginning of summer, "May move-overs," may do so for an extra charge. Students who need to stay from the end of summer until they have opening responsibilities, "August move-overs," may do so for an extra charge.

Opening Responsibilities

Opening responsibilities refer to students whose specific role on campus in August is directly related to the opening of the college and is ultimately determined by the Dean of Students.

Opening responsibilities roles include:

  • In-season athletes
  • Pre-orientation programs
  • Leadership groups who have responsibilities during orientation
  • Other groups as determined by the Dean of Students

Questions regarding summer housing can be emailed to Debby Young at RLO@davidson.edu.

May Move-over Process

New in 2017, all May move-overs will be temporarily housed in Richardson Hall during move-over week. May move-overs will have from noon on Sunday, May 21 through noon on Monday, May 22 to relocate out of their spring assignment into their temporary move-over assignment in Richardson. All residence halls will be completely empty by noon on Monday. May move-overs will remain in Richardson until Saturday, May 27, on which date they will move into their summer assignments.

Important: Richardson Hall will be without hot water for most of this move-over week, as will most of campus. Physical Plant does their required yearly maintenance on the steam plant this week. Residents will have access to Irwin and Akers bathrooms this week to take hot showers.
