Jazz

With a tradtional "big band" ensemble,a popular jazz combo and several performance opportunities for budding jazz singers, jazz is alive and well at Davidson College.

Under the direction of J. Estes Milner Professor of Music Bill Lawing, the Jazz Ensemble has an exciting season the culminates with a guest artist performance in late January featuring renowned saxophonist Tim Gordon and an April residency with award-winning trombonist and jazz vocalist Aubrey Logan.

Under the new direction of Tim Gordon, the fiery Davidson College Jazz Combo offers two concerts per year that focus on small group jazz literature and feature student-driven improvisation.

Spotlighting student vocalists, young jazz singers perform with the Davidson College Jazz Combo for an intimate performance in Tyler-Tallman Hall in February, and compete to win the Sing with the Jazz Ensemble competition that earns them the opportunity to front the big band group for a fun-filled Live Thursday performance in the Alvarez College Union in March.

All performances are free except where noted with a link to ticket information.
