One of the nation's leading higher ed trade publications recognized Davidson College for making winter break meaningful.
The Chronicle of Higher Education noted that two offices in particular are giving students the opportunity to make the most of the break between semesters.
The Center for Career Development makes sure that athletes who are on campus anyway for practice and conditioning get some customized career training. CCD staff members team with coaches and players to develop Career Advantage workshops that meet each team's specific needs.
"We're meeting students where they are," said Jeanne-Marie Ryan, executive director for the Center for Career Development.
While the CCD tends to students on campus, the Dean Rusk International Studies Program issues grants that allow students to travel to conduct research. Shannon Hayes '17 used a grant to travel to Morocco last year.
"I had a lot more exposure to the people and the culture," she said. "It pushed me out of my comfort zone."
