The White House: Alumna Receives National Award for Scientific Research

Sallie PermarSallie Permar '97 is among 102 researchers honored by President Obama with the 2013 Presidential Early Career Awards for Scientists and Engineers, the highest honor bestowed by the United States Government on science and engineering professionals in the early stages of their independent research careers. The winners will receive their awards at a Washington, D.C., ceremony in the coming year.

Permar serves as an associate professor of pediatrics and assistant professor in immunology, molecular genetics and microbiology at the Duke University School of Medicine, where she researches maternal correlates of immune protection against vertical transmission of neonatal viral pathogens.
