Community-based learning allows students to connect their academic work with direct experience in the community that meets a community-defined need.

On average, 25 community-based learning courses are offered each year providing students the opportunity to learn about social issues while practicing skills such as problem solving, critical thinking and communication.

In addition, the center provides resources to faculty members who wish to integrate community-based learning into their curriculum.

Community-Based Research The Center for Civic Engagement at Davidson has played a central role in community needs assessments and facilitated community-based research projects through academic courses in partnership with faculty.

Course Development Resources With thoughtful course development, your students will learn about social issues and the value of community involvement while practicing skills such as problem solving, critical thinking, working with others, and planning and implementation.

Faculty Fellows The Community Engaged Faculty Fellows program is a year-long opportunity that supports faculty to deepen their community engaged scholarship, build the capacity of our local community in the Charlotte region, and provide input into faculty resources for community-engaged and experiential learning.

Publishing, Professional Development & Recognition There are a number of professional conferences and publishing outlets that focus on community-based learning, civic engagement, social responsibilities, or experiential pedagogies.

Summer Community-Based Learning Institute- The summer Community-Based Learning Institute is a multi-day professional development opportunity for faculty that focuses on experiential learning pedagogy and offers support for faculty members as they develop community-based curricula.
