Key Dates

  • September 17 - Constitution Day & National Voter Registration Day
  • October 7-11 - National Voter Education Week
  • October 11 - Deadline to register to vote or update existing registration. After this date, you can vote with a provisional ballot and do same-day registration. Check deadlines in other states
  • October 17 - November 2 - In-person Early Voting (North Carolina)
  • October 29 - Vote Early Day
  • October 29 at 5 p.m. - Deadline to apply for a mail-in ballot in NC. Check deadlines in other states
  • November 5 - Election Day
  • November 6 - Election Hero Day

ID Requirements

Take special note about photo identification requirements:  

“Those who vote in North Carolina are asked to show photo ID when they check in to vote. Voters who vote by mail will be asked to include a photocopy of an acceptable ID when returning their ballot by mail. Many types of identification – including driver’s licenses, U.S. passports and State-approved student ID’s – will be accepted.”
