Math Coffee - Dr. Rich Neidinger, The Fair and Bold Gambling Function

What are the chances of achieving a goal in Vegas as a function of how much you start with? Success can be likely, though not profitable in the long run. The function is increasing without positive derivative (as studied by Daniel Bernstein ’13)! To make it “fair,” alternate the positions (odds) of house and client.  It’s easier to characterize derivative values of this very strange function for the fair game.
