Sochi 2014: Gender, Ethics, Sport

Davidson's own Dr. Gayle Kaufman (Sociology), Dr. Sean McKeever (Philosophy), Coach Dick Cooke (Baseball) and NYU Professor of Russian and Slavic Studies Eliot Borenstein will discuss the winter games in Sochi. Moderated by Davidson's Visiting Assistant Professor of Russian Irina Erman.

The upcoming Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, Russia offers a perfect occasion to reflect on broader questions affecting this year's Games, as well as Olympic competition more generally.  Join us for this panel discussion, featuring academic and coaching perspectives on gender in sport, doping, the ethics of protest among or against Olympic athletes and Western reactions to Russia's newly enacted "gay propaganda" law. Students, faculty and community members are invited to join us and participate in Q&A.

This event is sponsored by Russian Studies, Sociology and Philosophy Departments, as well as Gender and Sexuality Studies, the Dean Rusk International Studies Program and the Vann Center for Ethics.
