iO Tillett Wright’s Self Evident Project aims to humanize the face of queer America by photographing portraits of people throughout the country who identify as anything but 100% straight. Wright will speak on the intersections of art and activism, emphasizing the reality of the LGBTQ spectrum and challenging the way we construct perceptions of queer identity both institutionally and in our daily interactions. “It is time to show people our faces, so that they must acknowledge our variety, our humanity and our dignity. Familiarity begets empathy.”
Wright's studio work will be exhibited in the Multicultural Center in the Student Union. She will open her exhibition with a talk and a reception at 5 p.m. on Thursday, April 17. Visit Wright's visit to Davidson for more information.
