African American spirituals: Melissa Givens ’89 & Cynthia Lawing, piano

Join soprano Melissa Givens ’89 and pianist Cynthia Lawing for a moving concert of African American spirituals. Givens, an Assistant Professor of Voice and Head of Voice Studies at Pomona College, received Davidson’s highest alumni accolade, the Distinguished Alumni Award, at Reunion Weekend in June, 2024. She has returned to campus to sing on many occasions, including a recital for past president Carol Quillen on her inauguration. Join these two artists in exploring the depths of this vitally important musical genre of American history.
