Concert Series: Shostakovich and Beethoven
Dmitri Shostakovich’s rarely performed cinematic and quirky Adagio and Allegretto opens the program, segueing to his String Quartet no. 8, a meditative piece that laments totalitarianism. The concert ends with Beethoven’s String Quartet op. 59, no. 2—a showstopping masterwork commissioned by Russian Ambassador, Count Andreas Razumovsky.
