Panel of Legislators Will Discuss "State of the State" at Davidson College

Davidson College invites the public on Monday, Nov. 18, to a panel discussion featuring four current member of the N.C. Legislature. Three are Davidson College alumni.

Associate Professor of Political Science Susan Roberts will moderate the event with panelists Senator Daniel Clodfelter '72 (D), Senator Fletcher Hartsell '69 (R), Representative Grier Martin '91 (D), and Senator Jeff Tarte (R). They will discuss "North Carolina Politics: Changes for the State and Challenges for the Nation."

The forum will be held from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Alvarez College Union Smith 900 Room, with a reception following from 8 to 9 p.m. There is no charge to attend.

The event is being sponsored by the Davidson College Student Government Association, College Republicans, College Democrats and College Libertarians.

Dan Clodfelter is serving his eighth term in the Senate, representing Mecklenburg County. He served as the Democratic Caucus Co-Chair in the 2013-2014 session. Grier Martin has served four terms in the House, representing Wake County. He has also served in the U.S. Army Reserve since 1991, and did a tour of duty in Afghanistan from 2002 to 2003. Fletcher Hartsell is in his 12th term as a Senator, representing Cabarrus and Union counties. He chairs the Program Evaluation Committee, the Joint Legislative Workforce Development System Reform Oversight Committee, and the Joint Legislative Program Evaluation Oversight Committee. He is also vice chair of the N.C. General Statutes Commission. Tarte represents Mecklenburg County, and is serving his first term in the Senate. He serves as vice chair of the Health Care Committee.
