Nation’s Top Law Schools Converge on Campus for Annual Fair

November 21, 2018

The Center for Career Development, in partnership with the college's Prelaw Society hosted the Greater Charlotte Law School Fair on Thursday, Nov. 8, in the Alvarez College Union Atrium.

More than 90 students and alumni from Davidson and surrounding institutions met with representatives from the nation's top law schools. The event is one of the larger college-hosted fairs dedicated solely to law schools, capping off a week of similar graduate and professional school events held at colleges and universities throughout North Carolina.

This year's fair welcomed some law schools to campus for the first time, including the University of Southern California Gould School of Law and the University of Minnesota. Both rank within the top 25 (U.S. News Report Law School Rankings 2018), joining many other top law schools in attendance.

Because of the chance to interact with a large number of strong candidates, many law school admission representatives visit the event each year.

"The Greater Charlotte Law Fair hosted by Davidson College proves to be a great event every year," offers Darren Kettles, director of admissions for Stetson School of Law. "Davidson students are talented, motivated students who come out to meet with law school admissions officers, (and) the event also includes neighboring colleges. It really makes for a worthy stop in our fall recruiting cycle."

The fair provided the opportunity for attendees to learn about the application process and make connections with potential law schools of interest. Many first-years through graduating students took advantage of the chance to speak directly with admission representatives.

"Attending the Greater Charlotte Law School Fair gave me the opportunity to meet face-to-face with representatives from several law schools that I'm interested in attending," said Danny O'Malley '19, current president of the Prelaw Society. "I think the Fair was a great chance for me to make good first impressions. This was my third consecutive year attending the law school fair as a student, and every time, I feel like I leave the event with a far better idea of what each school has to offer and how I'd fit in with their particular community."
