Steven J. Knell To Join Davidson College as Visiting Director of Choral Activities

Steven Knell will be leading the Davidson College Choirs using an innovative approach to safe choral rehearsal and performance during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic and beyond.

An active performer (tenor), composer, clinician, conductor, and researcher, Steven earned his Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was the assistant conductor of the University of Texas Chamber Singers and Concert Chorale.

Steven is passionate about diversity in music and academia, particularly championing the work of queer students and artists, as well as the artistry of women and people of color. In addition to his work conducting and composing, Steven enjoys philosophy, travel, hiking, wine, the culinary arts, and the company of his beloved German shepherd, Maks.
