Background

Hello! I am Jeremy Brenner-Levoy (they/them), a new Visiting Assistant Professor at Davidson College. I will be here for two years, from 2024-2026.

I will teach courses on gender, statistics, digital sociology, and research methods. As a professor, I show sociology-in-action by including contemporary research studies. My classes often center on student participation, where we discuss, critique, improve, and contextualize the findings of current sociological research.

I am extremely interested in mentorship and methodology and look forward to bringing both into my classes. As a professor, I am excitable, friendly, and invested in cultivating student success.

I recently graduated with a Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Cincinnati in 2024. My research mostly focuses on gender, sexuality, leisure, and digital culture. To explain what that looks like in practice, my dissertation focused on how gender inequity that sociologists often observe in labor, such as the gender pay gap, pink-collar careers, gendered carework expectations, and the second shift, all also manifest in how we play video games. This builds upon my Master’s thesis, which analyzed queer men’s experiences with harassment in online video games.

Each of these studies uses quantitative and qualitative data, as I am both enthusiastic about methodology and believe that mixed-methods create unique insights into people’s experiences. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you want to discuss my research or want to get involved.
