Davidson College trustees are preserving commencement for the class of 2020 by personally donating $200,000 for travel expenses for class members who otherwise could not afford to return to campus for a promised ceremony in the coming months.

President Quillen made the announcement during an online celebration of the senior class that marked the original date of commencement.

“Our students are courageous, empathetic young people who think beyond themselves. Right now, they and all of us at Davidson are focused on addressing urgent needs and serving the most vulnerable among us,” said Davidson College President Carol Quillen. “I’m grateful for their resilience and compassion, and I’m thankful beyond words for our trustees’ generous commitment to give the class of 2020 an in-person commencement in the coming months.”
