Art Dialogue Between Lebanese Artist Elie Bou Zeidan, and French Artist Philippe Giraudo

October 30, 2024

Students in Arab Studies and French and Francophone Studies participated in art workshops with a local Lebanese artist, Elie Bou Zeidan.

The workshops were made possible by a grant from Davidson's Arts Across the Curriculum Enrichment Fund.

Bou Zeidan specializes in scenes from Lebanon, the mountains, fields, and flowers of his region. He is currently working on paintings of the Provence region of France, which have many similarities as well as differences from his village in Lebanon.

During the workshops at Elie’s studio in Cornelius, Bou Zeidan taught students about post-impressionistic painter, Philippe Giraudo. Giraudo paints the picturesque surroundings of Provence in all its detail, and takes pleasure in celebrating the magical essence of nature through his artwork.

Students learned how Provence is interpreted through the eyes of different artists. They selected one of Giraudo's paintings to inspire them to create their own painting.
