Daily Schedule, Drop Off and Pick Up

Each day starts at the barn at 8:30 a.m. Campers may be dropped off as early as 7:45 a.m. and must be picked up no later than 4:45 p.m. (Monday-Thursday) or 12:30 p.m. (Friday).

As you enter the gated Lake Campus facility, follow the signs and keep to the right for drop off and pick up at the north end of the barn. If you wish to meet with staff, please park to the side to avoid slowing traffic.

When picking up a camper, you must sign out at the gate. Early pickups should be coordinated with the camp office to ensure your camper is at the barn ready upon your arrival. Campers may only be picked up by parents/guardians listed during the registration process unless a written note is submitted to the camp office.

Staff

All instructors and counselors are hand-picked college and university students from around the country. All staff members are CPR/First Aid and Lifeguard certified.

What to Bring

DCDC is an outdoor camp that is based around water activity. Rain or shine, we still plan to have an action-packed day so please plan accordingly. Recommended items include:

  • Bathing Suit
  • Towel
  • Water Shoes/Flip Flops
  • Lunch
  • Snack or snack money
  • Water bottle

**Please refrain from bringing cell phones or other electronics to camp.**

Do you separate children by age and grade?

Groups are made based on grade and gender while taking into consideration the ‘Group Friend Request’ listed on the registration form. Occasionally we do have co-ed groups. Please ensure the grade listed on your registration form is correct to avoid any confusion.

Should my camper enroll in multiple weeks of camp?

We offer 6 individual day camp sessions. Approximately 25% of our campers attend more than one session.

Do you offer discounts?

We offer a ‘Family Member’ discount of $25 when 2+ campers are registered in an order. If you failed to receive the discount during the registration process, please email dclakecampus@davidson.edu.

Do you accept last-minute registrations?

Registration for each session closes 4 days before the start of the session. If space is available and it makes sense from a group perspective, we will allow registrations in the 4-day window.

Will I receive additional information about the camp after I register?

After successfully completing the registration process, you will receive an email confirming your child’s registration, along with additional camp information. Registration system-generated emails do go out with reminders about supplemental forms that are outstanding. Please double-check your “Junk” folder if you did not receive a confirmation email.

Can we request that my camper be placed in a group with another camper (buddy requests)?

We will try to honor ONE friend request, only if BOTH parties request each other, are of the same gender/grade level, and are registered for the same sessions. Listing more than one request will void all friend requests. Friend requests are not guaranteed.

What is the swimming test procedure?

Each camper takes a swim test during the 1st or 2nd activity period on Monday of their first week of camp. Campers swim approximately 25 yards, tread water for 2 minutes, and swim 25 yards back to shore. Stamina, endurance, and stroke are evaluated. Each camper is assigned a breakaway swim band to be worn daily around their neck which helps staff identify swim level. Lifejackets are always available and are required in any boating activity.

What is the counselor-to-camper ratio at Davidson College Day Camp at the Lake?

Each group will have 1 counselor and 1 CLT (volunteer) making the ratio at most 1:10. Each staff member is Lifeguard & CPR certified. While participating in activities such as skiing where the additional staff is present the ratio shrinks in the range of 1:5 staff members to campers.

How do you handle inclement weather?

Safety is always our number one priority, and we are extremely conscious of the weather. If we see or hear a thunderstorm approaching, water activities are immediately halted. Let’s be honest, rainy days at the lake are not ideal. However, we do not close camp due to inclement weather barring natural disasters. Rainy day activities include dance parties, skits, four square, board games, and occasionally field games in the rain if there is no lightning or thunder. We do everything possible to get back on the water ASAP following any delays. If possible, we will do our best to make up any missed boating activities.

What precautions do you take to handle the summer heat?

Water is always available for each camp program and campers are encouraged to bring a water bottle and take water breaks approximately every 15-20 minutes. We take the heat, humidity, and air quality index seriously. We ensure that sunscreen is reapplied multiple times throughout the day and we always have sunscreen on-site if your camper forgets or loses their sunscreen.
