Housing Lottery
The housing lottery is the process used to assign returning students to campus housing and determine eligibility for off-campus permission.
The lottery utilizes randomly assigned numbers to determine the selection order. Each housing option—whether specific room types (e.g., apartments, single rooms) or special programs (e.g., Substance-Free Housing)—requires you to complete a housing application.
The Honor Code and Code of Responsibility govern the lottery process. Any attempt at cheating, lying or falsifying information will be treated as an Honor Code violation. The Residence Life Office treats each student with fairness and expects students to treat their peers fairly.
What to Expect from the Housing Selection Process
Introduction of StarRez
The Residence Life Office (RLO) is excited to launch StarRez, a new housing software that will replace the current platform, The Housing Director (THD). StarRez offers a more streamlined and user-friendly housing application and selection process.
Housing Application Requirement
All students are now required to complete a housing application to participate in the selection process. This update simplifies the process and ensures clarity in housing preferences. Students will have the opportunity to create roommate groups before Housing Selection Day, and all room types—including requests for off-campus permission—will be available within a single application. Please note: Students are required to live on campus unless granted off-campus permission by RLO. The application will open in March 2025, and Housing Selection Day will take place in April 2025.
Housing Accommodations
If you require specific housing accommodations, please submit your request to Academic Access & Disability Resources (AADR) by the designated deadline. Accommodation requests must be submitted each year. Contact AADR at aadr@davidson.edu to initiate the process.
Study Abroad Participants
Students accepted into study abroad for Fall 2025 are not eligible for the 2025 housing selection process. Information regarding Spring 2026 housing will be provided at a later date.
Off-Campus Permission
Students must submit a housing application to request off-campus permission.
- Only juniors and seniors are eligible to submit requests.
- Submitting an off-campus application does not guarantee permission.
- The RLO strongly advises students not to sign any lease for off-campus housing until off-campus permission for the 2025-2026 academic year has been granted. Students who sign leases without permission may still be subject to housing charges.
