Religious and spiritual life lecturers visit campus to share their expertise, inspire students, and foster thoughtful dialogue on a variety of faith-based and philosophical topics.
Established in 2017 by Tom and Ann Rhodes, the Rhodes Series for Buddhist Engagement is an annual series centered on Buddhist practice and teachings as they relate to our modern world. Invitees bring both an academic sensibility and a commitment to Buddhism as a spiritual practice. The series typically includes a public talk with Q&A as well as opportunities for practice and events for students, faculty, staff and community members.
Past lectures include "Restoring Equitable Relations: Deep Witnessing and Healing Racial Trauma" by Prof. Natalie Avalos and "Be Not Afraid: A Week of Buddhist Teachings” by Larry and Peggy Ward.
The Staley Lecture Series was established at Davidson in 1970 by Thomas F. Staley ’24. His goal was to give students and others in the college community an opportunity to hear distinguished Christian speakers reflect on their personal faith and some aspect of their work or area of expertise in ways that are intellectually engaging and spiritually nurturing.
Past lecturers include Thema Bryant, Professor of Psychology at Pepperdine University, and Miroslav Volf, Professor of Theology at Yale University Divinity School.
The Binah Lecture Series was established by anonymous donors in 2022 to provide opportunities for the college community to hear from and engage with speakers that explore Jewish life and culture.
Past lecturers include Author Mark Oppenheimer and Novelist Dara Horn.
