AP Summer Institute

Sponsored by the College Board Southern Regional Office and Davidson College, this week-long institute is offered to current and new AP teachers.

The institute is designed to benefit beginning AP teachers and/or current AP teachers wishing to build on an existing course. Participants will work with College Board-approved consultants and Davidson faculty members on AP curriculum content and teaching strategies. Teachers will gain insight on selecting course materials, learning ways for higher level thinking, and preparing students for Advanced Placement examinations.

Through the AP Summer Institute offered by Davidson College, you will: 

• Develop a course pacing guide by unit/topic to incorporate the full scope of your AP course into your school’s academic calendar
• Examine formative and summative assessment item types to identify and explain how pairings of content and skills are the focus of instruction and also the targets of these assessments
• Practice applying the scoring guidelines from the most recent AP exam to samples of student work
• Identify student strengths and weakness using data available through AP Classroom and Instructional Planning Reports
• Walk away with ready-to-use strategies and pedagogical tools shared by an experienced educator within the AP community
