Virtual Meeting Standards
The Office of Alumni and Family Engagement is committed to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and engaging virtual environment for all participants. Whether attending a class, event, or meeting via Zoom, we ask that all individuals adhere to the following community standards to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
Respectful Communication
- Use professional, courteous and inclusive language.
- Avoid disruptive behavior, including talking over others or interrupting.
- Engage in discussions thoughtfully and respectfully, fostering a supportive atmosphere that reflects Davidson’s commitment to integrity and community.
- Disagreements are natural but always engage in respectful dialogue.
Inclusive and Welcoming Environment
- Be mindful of diverse perspectives and experiences.
- Refrain from any form of harassment, discrimination or hate speech.
- Use inclusive language and behaviors that foster a sense of belonging.
Professional and Appropriate Presence
- Dress appropriately for a public or professional setting.
- Use a neutral or non-distracting background when possible.
- Stay attentive and engaged, avoiding multitasking unless necessary.
Responsible Use of Technology
- Mute your microphone when not speaking to minimize background noise.
- Use video when possible, to foster engagement, but respect individual preferences.
- Do not record, screenshot, or share meeting content without permission.
Adherence to College Policies
- Uphold the values of Davidson College the same sense of curiosity, respect, and intellectual honesty that defines the Davidson experience.
- Engage respectfully and responsibly, fostering an inclusive and harassment-free environment in line with Davidson’s policies.
- Violations of these standards may be subject to review and appropriate action.
By joining an Office of Alumni and Family Engagement Zoom session, you agree to uphold these community standards and contribute to a respectful and enriching virtual experience. If you experience or witness behavior that violates these guidelines, please report concerns to the appropriate college office.
