E. H. Little Library

The E.H. Little Library serves as a dynamic environment for the Davidson College community to collaborate, explore, experiment, and grow as researchers, creators, and scholars.

The library’s team of research librarians, instructional designers, archivists, and peer consultants provide programming, course design, and individualized support across disciplines. Library collections include more than 500,00 physical volumes, and access to more than 2 million eBook titles, 860 databases, and over 155,000 electronic serials. Named after philanthropist E.H. Little, president and chairman of the board of Colgate-Palmolive Company and a Huntersville, N.C. native, the library building was constructed in 1974. Situated in the center of campus, it spans 100,000 square feet, and includes the college’s Center for Teaching and Learning, technology-enhanced classrooms, and group study rooms. The library is open to students 24/7 throughout the academic year.

Special Collections

Smith Rare Book Room: Located on the second floor of the Library, this space houses the library's unique, rare and unusual book collections. While requiring additional security and care, books in the room are available for use by Davidson's faculty, staff and students as well as visiting scholars and the general public.

Davidsoniana Room: The Davidsoniana Room is home to several thousand volumes by and about Davidson alumni and faculty. It also contains artifacts from Davidson's history including the table on which Davidson's charter was signed.

Center for Teaching & Learning

Located on the main floor of the library, the Center for Teaching & Learning provides tutoring, writing, speaking, research, and digital media services to support student academics. The center also supports faculty with research, instructional technology, and timely professional development workshops.
